This spring, apples are a disadvantageous product. Even at the lowest price, selling products is not easy, EastFruit project analysts said.

Domestic apples last week were sold at a price of 5-10 UAH / kg ($ 0.18-0.37 / kg). This is 20% cheaper than in the last days of the last working week.

Leading market operators complain that they are forced to sell large bulk consignments of apples at 4-5 UAH / kg ($ 0.15-0.18 / kg). Many farmers agree to supply fruit at such prices, but this does not increase the number of buyers.

“Premium” quality apples can be sold at a price of 6-8 UAH / kg ($ 0.22-0.29 / kg) in the retail network according to previously concluded agreements. At the same time, retailers are constantly trying to reduce the purchase price.

Today, locally grown apples in Ukraine cost 60% less than in the last days of March 2018. Most Ukrainian gardeners predict a further decrease in the cost of production, provided that the sales rate in the segment remains at the current level.
