Scottish dairy farmers are strongly encouraged to attend future dairy farming meetings in Scotland in early July.
Meetings will be held at Kinross (July 3); Teynston (July 3); Castle Douglas (July 4) and Renfrew (July 4). They are expected to consult with the UK government to regulate contracts between dairy farmers and processors.
Workshops open to all will help inform farmers and other interested parties about a possible change in the dairy sector and will be conducted by well-informed experts from the National Farmers Union of Scotland, England and Wales, the Rural Development Council and the Scottish Government.
Martin Kennedy, vice president of the National Farmers Union of Scotland, said: “This is the start of the most important conversation with dairy farmers and other stakeholders in a quarter century.
These workshops are the beginning of an ongoing discussion to agree on what an effective dairy contract should cover and how it should be agreed. I encourage every dairy farmer in Scotland, where possible, to participate. This is your dairy industry and this is your future. ”
