One of the reliable and effective ways of modern landscaping of parks is the use of rolled lawns. They favorably differ in environmental friendliness, durability, ease of installation, unpretentiousness in leaving, and also decorative qualities. Since the material is turf planted with lawn grasses, it is rolled up and laid on special pallets for transportation. The standard and non-standard parameters of such rolls will be discussed later.
Characteristics of a rolled lawn
Lawn turf is produced in the fields using loose artificial or plant mats that are densely sown with grass. By the way, plants can be selected according to the climatic characteristics of a particular region, winter hardiness, resistance to cold, disease, drought. After two years of cultivation, threaded strips are formed from sowing, which come in different sizes.
When folded, they can be stored for no more than 24 hours. Therefore, it is important to prepare the seat in advance, to take care of the timely delivery of the lawn from the nursery and its laying. When landscaping a site, you need to know the parameters of a rolled lawn, such as weight, length, width, thickness of the turf and the height of the grass growing on it.
Important! The presence of a large number of white healthy roots on a rolled web indicates the quality of the grass. However, when rolling and rolling the roll, nothing should spill out of it.
Weight
Often, one lawn strip weighs 15 kg. But due to the peculiarities of design decisions and exclusive landscape layouts, manufacturers can depart from the generally accepted standard, producing copies weighing up to 22 kg. Accordingly, the dimensions of the turf increase. It is characteristic that the weight of the cutting material, along with its other parameters, determines the type and purpose of the lawn.
For example:
- universal coating weighs between 15-17 kg, it is recommended for landscaping garden areas, as well as alleys, it is better to lay such a roll on a site with a slope of 70 °;
- ground floor - is a decorative flowerbed, which is forbidden to walk on, characterized by a minimum weight of 15 kg;
- sports - characterized by a thick layer of turf, due to which its weight reaches its maximum value (22 kg), designed for heavy loads.
Did you know? Specialists were able to determine that about 10 thousand thin stems grow on each square meter of the square of a rolled lawn.
Width
The width of any roll strip clearly corresponds to 40 cm. There are no other options. Such parameters simplify the installation of the canvas. Experts note that adjacent materials must fit snugly together. Between them you must not allow free space and overlapping.
Turf Thickness and Grass Height
The thickness of the turf in a roll corresponds to 15–20 mm. It is important to pay attention to the quality of the substrate. It should not have stones, clay and sand. Thinning or compaction is unacceptable. The turf layer should be the same throughout the roll. The recommended grass height should be 3-5 cm. On sports lawns, this parameter does not exceed 2.5 cm.
Keep in mind that some unscrupulous manufacturers try to hide the visual defects of the green surface by short-cutting the grass. Then, it is true, signs of plant disease, deficiency of soil moisture or nutrients become less noticeable. The grass should be uniform and saturated in color. On the roll bald spots are unacceptable, the diameter of which is larger than 10 mm.
Important! The freshness of the lawn roll is determined by the scent. It should not emit an unpleasant odor.
Length
Typically, the length of the roll is 1.8 m. Non-standard samples can reach 2 m. When buying this type of lawn, pay attention to the uniformity of greenery on top and the evenness of the edges of the strip.
How to calculate how many rolls are needed for stacking
In order to determine how many rolls will be needed for laying the lawn on the site, it is necessary to calculate the total area of the territory planned for landscaping, as well as the area of the roll strip. If we are talking about standard samples, then the area of one roll corresponds to 0.7 m². The transport pallet accommodates 63 rolls with a total area of 50 m².
Rolled lawns are recognized by experts as the most technologically advanced agricultural developments. Thanks to them, every landowner has the opportunity to quickly acquire a quality lawn, without wasting time sowing and growing grass. In order to correctly calculate the amount of grass required, you need to proceed from their sizes of rolled strips and the areas planned for landscaping.
