Pupils of the ecological and naturalistic center of the city of Shpola, Cherkasy region learned to grow exotic fruits and vegetables: sweet potatoes - sweet potato, dates, guava, pomegranates, avocados, etc.
More than 300 species of plants exotic for our lands were taught to grow by schoolchildren from the city of Shpola, Cherkasy region. They grow, care for and record the results of their successes.
For example, this year we harvested from date palms. Sweet potato was also a favorite for schoolchildren. Several potatoes were left, everything else was fried, the pupils of the circle of the city ecological and naturalistic center are laughing.
Among the crops they collect are pomegranates, mangoes, guava, avocados. It was possible to harvest even with an exotic monstera, which for most Ukrainian housewives simply decorates window sills, like an evergreen plant.
But the students managed not only to wait from the flower monstera, but also to collect the fruits. They say that they taste like a little banana, and a little pineapple.
Margarita Lapteva, a pupil of the club, takes care of the monster, who visits the greenhouse of the ecological and naturalistic center twice a week. She shows a large green fruit, something like a cucumber. Direct speech: “This is the fruit of a delicious monstera. He’s almost finished, ”the girl says.
Schoolchildren not only consume the results of their labor. Observations of exotic plants are shared with ecologists from other regions and participate in various competitions, often winning them.
Children receive knowledge and skills that they will need later in adulthood, Svetlana Peremot, head of the ecological and naturalistic center, is convinced.
