Participants in the meeting of the Zaporizhzhya Regional State Administration Commission decided to carry out depopulation of wild pigs living on the territory of the Khortitsa Island Nature Reserve.
Recall that in the last days of March 2019, experts of the Khortitsa State Food and Beverage Service and the involved services are working to eliminate the source of the disease and prevent the spread of the disease, a quarantine post has been established, and widespread rounds are being conducted in the protection and supervision zones.
Members of the commission expressed confidence that wild pigs are an essential link in the transmission of African plague. Until they are fully depopulated in the reserve, it will constitute a constant threat to pig breeding in the region.Earlier it was reported that over the past seven years, the loss from ASF in Ukraine amounted to 150 million UAH. Today, there are cases of concealment of ASF outbreaks in the country both by small farms and large industrial enterprises.
Pig farmers are afraid that the state will not be able to compensate them for the cost of disposed animals and prefer not to disclose information. All this creates the conditions for the further spread of the disease throughout Ukraine.
