The other day, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexei Gordeev gave a responsible task to domestic restaurateurs.
He instructed the owners of catering establishments with an impressive wine list to highlight wines made by Russian producers on the menu.
Based on the instructions, in the near future Russian wines will be significantly highlighted in the wine list in large print or in other ways, and will also be placed first in the list of offered wine products - only then wines made by foreign masters will follow in the list.
Corresponding amendments will be made to the decree “On approval of the rules for the provision of services in the field of public catering”.
The order of Alexei Gordeev is already known in Rospotrebnadzor. Employees of the Ministry of Agriculture, as well as specialists from the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Economic Development, have been notified.
Winemakers of the Russian Federation actively support the initiative of the Deputy Prime Minister. In particular, Leonid Popovich, the head of the Union of Winegrowers of the Russian Federation, is sure that highlighting domestic wine in the restaurant menu will help the consumer focus on domestic products, appreciate it and overcome the stereotype that, for example, French or Portuguese wine is tastier and better than Russian.
