MEPs took the initiative in introducing modern technologies to improve compliance with existing rules, including geolocation systems to track the location of animals and the duration of their transportation, as well as real-time feedback between departure and arrival points.
According to deputies, vehicles intended for transporting animals should be provided with adequate ventilation and temperature control, as well as equipped with drinking water supply systems, and the time for transporting animals should be reduced as much as possible.
The deputies took the initiative to support local, mobile or farm slaughterhouses and meat processing plants located nearby animal breeding sites. They also put forward a demand for the European Commission to clarify the appropriate transportation dates for different types of animals and to develop a strategy for the transition from transporting live animals to transporting meat, when possible.
