In the European Union, the humidity of bird droppings makes it possible to consider pyrolysis technology as utilization without additional previous manipulations. This was told by the General Director of AgroBiogaz Olga Sidorchuk.
She noted that two large poultry enterprises in Ukraine (in Kiev and Dnepropetrovsk regions) compared the pyrolysis and biogas technologies at the stage of choosing a solution for the utilization of poultry manure.
“The proposals were approximately equally priced and had relatively equal payback periods, however, both enterprises settled on pyrolysis utilization,” Olga Sidorchuk said.
One of the decisive arguments, she said, was that they did not know what to do with biofertilizers after biogas production, because they buy feed, and they do not have crop production in the production structure.
“Today, none of the enterprises is satisfied with the choice of pyrolysis technology, because pre-drying poultry manure before burning is an energy-intensive process, which affects the overall recycling economy,” said Olga Sidorchuk,
One of these enterprises now uses only 10% of the installed capacity of the pyrolysis plant, she added. At the same time, both poultry companies are planning the development of biogas technology.
