The Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture announced that the German group FAKT will invest one billion euros in a garden center for production, processing and logistics in Hedieshalom, in western Hungary.
The site will occupy an area of 330 hectares, making it one of the largest horticultural centers in Central Europe. In addition to production and logistics facilities, the center will include a fish farm, greenhouses, refrigerated containers, a conference room and living quarters.
“This investment is the largest and most complex agricultural and food industrial project in the last few decades,” said Hungarian Minister of Agriculture Istvan Nagy. During a joint press conference with Mr. Nagy, FAKT CEO and President Hubert Schulte-Kemper said the company chose western Hungary because it is located in the triangle of Budapest-Vienna-Bratislava and has "excellent infrastructure in all directions." The CEO added that the investment will create 5,000 jobs in the long run.The FAKT project is the third largest foreign investment in the Hungarian economy in recent years, which surpassed only the Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét and the BMW plant under construction in Miskolc in eastern Hungary.
