The Ministry of Agriculture of the Stavropol Territory announces the arrival of 1,750 Jersey breed heifers from Denmark. New arrivals are housed in one of the local advanced dairy farms.
The farm that received the foreign cows is engaged in the implementation of the investment project, which is to improve the dairy complex. Now the investment phase is over, the funds have been disbursed, and the farm itself will be brought to full capacity by the end of this year.
The farm already has auxiliary facilities, equipment for the preparation and distribution of feed, removal of manure and ventilation was purchased. The equipment has been updated, new technologies have been integrated for keeping a herd of adult animals and calves, a machine and tractor fleet has been created to prepare feed and maintain the complex, the agency said.
Jersey breed
According to Aleksey Rudenko, First Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Stavropol Territory, the main factor in modernizing the farm is the import of Danish livestock. Jersey cows are valued for their ability to produce Extra milk with a fat content of 5-6%. It is expected that 10,200 tons of milk will be produced here annually.
While the farm employs 80 people. When it reaches its design capacity, their number will increase to 110. The bulk of the workers are residents of the Kalinovskoye village of the Aleksandrovsky district of the Stavropol Territory and surrounding settlements.
The complex wants to obtain pedigree status and grow pedigree heifers. There are few farms in Russia now that sell cows of a Jersey breed; this area is considered promising.
The state supports this economy by paying subsidies for products that were sold in 2019.The Ministry of Agriculture is also going to allocate subsidies to offset part of the cost of updating the complex.
