Sweets with the addition of potatoes began to produce the company Mp Sardinia, which is owned by Gianfranco Psichedda with his brothers Antonio and Giuseppe. Farmers grow and process potatoes on the island of Sardinia, an autonomous region of Italy.
Mp Sardinia produces potatoes in an area that is not ideal, since there is a large temperature difference between day and night and an unusual height prevails for growing this tuber.
“We are located in the province of Sassari, at an altitude of 750 m. Above sea level on the plain, where the water comes from local sources. Since this is a mountainous region, we cannot be extremely competitive when it comes to volumes, so we focus on quality.
We have 6 ha. Where we grow various varieties: three yellow, pink and purple varieties that produce 30 tons / ha. and are classified as Fumuderra (meaning potatoes in the local dialect), ”says the farmer.
“Our main product is purple potato, which has a unique aftertaste of walnut and chestnut and is marketed under the Archemissa brand name (in Sardinian, the name means lavender because the color of the pulp resembles a lavender flower),” says the entrepreneur.
The company also partnered with Peano, which introduced the confectionery brand Cioccoderra. The farmer announces the following about the new potato product: “This is a praline with chocolate and potatoes, and we are currently testing new pairs. Sweets are available with both classic and purple potatoes. ”
The brand is available in northern Sardinia between Olbia and Sassari, where Fumuderra potatoes can be bought in specialized stores.
“We are working on a new site, so our products will be available online soon. We believe that electronic stores have opened a new era that could significantly change the commercialization of fresh produce in the future, ”concludes Gianfranco Psichedda.
