Uk vertical farmers use excess heat from LED brewing lights.
Midland's Astwood Group has shaped a business idea that revolutionized the agricultural sector by making expert use of all this wasted heat.
The idea was born as a result of a collective brainstorming session in a pub that boasts a wide assortment of beer brewed directly from a nearby vertical Vertivore farm.
Michael Capewell, director and founder of the Astwood Group, talks about their vertical farm and how it helps beer production at Lab Culture: “Vertivore is a vertical farm that grows plants all year round in a secure chamber with LED lighting and strategic placement in a durable structure.
Vertical farming makes it possible to grow in areas where the production of traditional vegetables is impossible, and freshwater resources are limited. It is great to improve the quality, production speed and yield of our products.
By its nature, this process conserves natural resources and uses at least 70% less water than agriculture, but does so with fewer miles to move from pan to stove.
After launching our Vertical Farm, the team quickly realized that the farm was losing excess heat from its LED lamps. As a company that puts the environment at the forefront, we hate waste and strive to prevent, reduce, reuse or recycle wherever possible.
We quickly returned to the drawing board to use this excess energy. The seed for the laboratory brewery was sown. "
